Lance Miller
March meeting report
By Jan Naritomi-Hart/March 17, 2007
Lance Miller, one of our members, spoke at our March “St. Pat’s Day” meeting about his journey into the world of Carcinoid. His excellent PowerPoint presentation gave us insight on how he started out, upon diagnosis, researching this disease with the same vigor he would as if it were his next work project. After many appointments, telephone calls and seeing Carcinoid specialists here in Los Angeles, in New York, & in New Orleans, he decided on having his first surgery at Mt. Sinai with a surgeon recommended by Dr. Warner. Lance explained how & why he made his tough decision for treatment, in much detail. It was indeed, a very moving & educational talk (& funny, too!) and you may access his presentation on this site if you missed out!
After meeting & talking with Nancy O’Hagan, the Founder & President of the Caring for Carcinoid Foundation, at our special conference last year, Lance was so taken by her talk that he became a CFCF board member. Therefore, it was apropos for him to introduce Ms. O’Hagan as our special guest speaker. Nancy gave us insight on her own Carcinoid condition and is an amazing & inspirational young woman.
With her energy & enthusiasm for finding a cure for Carcinoid, it’s hard to believe that this very articulate and humble woman has bone mets that debilitate her daily. We were all delighted to learn more about this unique “new” foundation, which seems to be moving in the right direction very quickly, due to the dedication and perseverance of Nancy & her supportive husband, Patrick, CFCF Co-Chair, & many Carcinoid supporters, who have recruited leading research scientists to pave the way for a cure. I believe we were all moved and motivated to join the movement in achieving the CFCF mission of curing Carcinoid!
