05/17/08: Run Yu, M.D.
Our May 17th speaker was Run Yu, MD, PhD, Director of the Carcinoid and Neuroendocrine Tumor Center at Cedars Sinai. He is also Assistant Professor of Medicine at UCLA Division of Endocrinology. Dr. Yu gave the best overview of carcinoid tumors that I have heard. He also talked about Sandostatin and diabetes, which was the first time I heard a carcinoid doctor talk in length about diabetes. After hearing Dr Yu, I made an appointment. If you have concerns about diabetes I strongly suggest seeing an endocrinologist with carcinoid experience. By Nick Neville

Dr. John McKenzie, III is a cardiologist, specializing in rhythm disorders discussed cardiac disorders and especially the effects of carcinoid syndrome on the heart and the appropriate treatments.
“Even in the absence of severe symptoms of the carcinoid syndrome, it is highly recommended that serotonin levels be reduced.”
“Which can be realized by combination of different treatment modalities.”
