I can say now that being diagnosed with Carcinoid or Neuroendocrine cancer was the best thing to happen in my life!! Since December 19, 2003, when I was thrust into this new, unknown world of a new beginning, I have met some wonderful people, both survivors and others who have shaped my “new” life!
In the beginning, I had no clue what Carcinoid Cancer was, but believe me, I found out that I had to educate myself as much as I could, since most of the medical professionals I had didn’t have many more clues than I! Initially I was told I had Pancreatic Cancer with liver metastases, was deemed inoperable by 3-renowned San Diego medical centers and my first oncologist recommended systemic chemotherapy right away! Fortunately, I found the Carcinoid.org website and realized there were specialists in the Los Angeles area AND other options. My “medical team” was formed and I was the leader!
I am a grateful participant of two Southern California support groups and find it a tremendous part of my continuing treatment and healing journey. I hope newly-diagnosed NOIDS will be encouraged by our “FACES” and have hope for the new life ahead.

In August of 1988 carcinoid tumors were removed from my colon. When I showed signs of carcinoid syndrome 10 years later they were convinced it was IBS, despite knowing about earlier surgery. I finally convinced one doctor to do an ultrasound. The tumors had metastized to my liver. In 2002 I had a liver resection, in 2004 more tumors were ablated. They are still there. Because of my carcinoid journey I’ve entered the medical field as a CNA and will be studying to become a nurse.

I was diagnosed “by accident/good fortune” during a colonoscopy biopsy in 1997. During surger to remove twelve inches of my colon, carcinoids were discovered in my liver.

I was diagnosed with carcinoid cancer in July 2006. Shortly thereafter, I found the carcinoid support group which has proven to be extremely helpful. The carcinoid community has steered me in the right direction for treatment and informed me of the select few carcinoid specialists.
