promoting understanding of Carcinoid; the methods of diagnosis and the success of treatment
Why do we need an Awareness Campaign?
- Too FEW people know that Carcinoid Cancer exists
- The symptoms of Carcinoid Cancer often resemble other diseases.
- A very high percentage of patients wait at least four years before receiving the correct diagnosis and often much longer for appropriately aggressive treatment, and adequate monitoring.
- Many of the advances made in the past decade in diagnosing and treating Carcinoid Cancer have yet to become common practice.
- Too little funding goes to Carcinoid Cancer research
- This disease is highly treatable and with early diagnosis and treatment patients have a good chance of recovery and a very productive and satisfying life.
We at SEA are committed to increasing awareness of Carcinoid Cancer. Our promotion of awareness includes:
- Education for both public and private healthcare providers
- Conferences
- Monthly meetings
- The May 2005 California Awarness Initiative and Declaration : May is Carcinoid Awareness Month by both Mayor Hahn and Gov Schwartznegger (Under Construction)
- Book: Carcinoid Tumor: A Guide to Diagnosis and Treatment
- SEA PDF Brochure: Shine the Light on Carcinoid (Under Construction)
