Carcinoid Tumors are a rare type of cancer

Approximately 8,000 new cases of carcinoid tumors are diagnosed in the United States annually.
Carcinoid is rare, occurring in about 3 cases per 100,000 people per year.

These tumors secrete hormones into the body which may cause many symptoms including diarrhea, flushing, and wheezing. The symptoms often mimic other illnesses such as Crohn’s disease, Irritable bowel syndrome or emotional disorders. Because the symptoms vary greatly and due to the rarity of carcinoid, patients often go years before diagnosis.

Support Education Awareness (SEA) believes that with support we can begin to look beyond the diagnosis, that with education we are empowered and with Awareness comes the success of treatment.

SEA was founded in 2001 by Carcinoid Patients Nik Neville and Nickolette Way. We meet on the third Saturday of each month in the Cancer Center of Glendale Adventist Medical Center.

Mission Statement

  • Provides empathetic support for caring and sharing with fellow carcinoid patients and their families.
  • Replaces fear with facts through education regarding cancer-related issues that affect the quality of our lives, including medical treatment, patient-doctor relationships, family and social life, insurance, and employment.
  • Promotes understanding Carcinoid through increased awareness of the methods of diagnosis and the success of treatment amongst the public and healthcare providers in California.
